We look forward to welcoming you to the inaugural Post to Post Adventure Race this Saturday 3rd September.
Please read through the following points carefully. This information is for your benefit.
On Site Check-in
Takes place on Friday 2nd September between 6pm and 9pm at the CLG na nDúnaibh clubhouse, Downings, Co. Donegal F92 YV40. Competitors must collect their race packs which will contain a race number, timing wristband, goodie bag and race top. There is no registration on Saturday morning.
Mandatory Kit
All competitors MUST have the mandatory kit at registration.
We highly recommend carrying a puncture repair kit.
Bike Drop
After collecting their race pack, competitors must drop their bike at the bike station in Transition Zone 1 (see map). Bikes should be racked in the correct slot on pitch which will be clearly marked. There will be 24hr bike security in place.
Morning of Race
Parking will be available a short walk away from the GAA club and will be clearly signposted. There will be no parking within the grounds of the GAA club, or on R245 on the day of the race.
Competitor Briefing
The competitor briefing will take place in the GAA clubhouse at 7.00am sharp. The competitors briefing is compulsory for ALL. Failure to attend this briefing could result in you missing vital information.
Timing
Each competitor will be issued with a timing wristband at check in on Friday evening. Wristbands are assigned to individuals so please take care not to mix up wristbands or wear another competitors wristband.
At the end of each stage, competitors must tap their wristband against a timing station until there is an audible beep. Failure to do this will result in incomplete or inaccurate timings for your race.
There is no need to tap your wristband at the start line, but you must tap your wristband at the finish line.
There are no “dead zones” on the course. Once your wave starts you are on the clock until you tap your wristband at the finish line.
Wristbands must be returned at the end of the race.
Water
We recommend that competitors carry a water bottle on their bikes.
Starting Order
Each competitor will be assigned a starting wave. Please ensure you start in the correct wave.
You can check your starting wave in advance of the race on the race website.
Wave 1: 7.30am
Wave 2: 7.42am
Wave 3: 7.54am
Wave 4: 8:06am
Wave 5: 8:18am
Wave 6: 8:30am
Competitors must be in the Starting Line Corral (see map) no later than 5 minutes before their scheduled start time.
Course notes:
Competitors must wear their race number at all times.
Competitors must obey marshals and signage at all times.
Stage 1 run
There is no requirement to tap your timing wristband at the start line. Your race time will be automatically calculated from your starting wave.
Competitors must run on the left hand side of the road when ascending the hill between the crossroads (first left turn) and Magherabeg (second left turn). This is to avoid oncoming competitors on bikes. See map.
Stage 2 cycle
Competitors should tap their wristband when entering Transition Zone 1, collect their bike and exit through the clubhouse car park.
Extra care should be taken around the “twisty corners” between Glen village and Derriscleigh. See map.
Stage 3 kayak
Competitors should park their bike at the bike stand in Transition Zone 2 (Derriscleigh), tap their wristband and make their way to the slipway.
The distance between the bike station and slipway is approximately 300m over uneven terrain.
Stage 4 cycle
Having completed the kayak course and returned to the bike station at Transition Zone 2, competitors should tap their wristband before retrieving their bike from the bike station.
Extra care should be taken around the “twisty corners” between Derriscleigh and Glen village. See map.
There is a sharp right turn that follows a descent at Lackagh bridge. Competitors should take extra care to maintain control of their bikes at this junction and to give way to traffic on the R245. See map.
Stage 5 boardwalk run
Competitors should park their bike at the bike stand in Transition Zone 3 (Boardwalk Resort), tap their wristband and make their way to the boardwalk.
Competitors will make a U-turn at the end of the boardwalk. Please run on the left hand side of the boardwalk to avoid colliding with other competitors.
Stage 6 cycle
Competitors should tap their wristband before retrieving their bike from the bike station at Transition Zone 3.
Stage 7 run
Competitors should park their bike at the bike stand in Transition Zone 1 (see map), tap their wristband and commence their final run via the beach access gate (see map).
Care should be taken when descending onto the beach from the bank.
Finish Line
After crossing the finish line, make sure to tap your wristband promptly, otherwise we may not record a correct time for your race.
Footwear
Competitors who choose to wear cleats for the cycle stages (2, 4 & 6), should be aware that cleats are not suitable for the running stages (1, 5 & 7) nor the kayak stage (3) which also involves a short run.
Our recommendation is to either cycle in running shoes, or to carry running shoes in a backpack during the cycle stages.
Post Race
A photo board area will be available after the finish line. There will be showers and changing rooms available at the clubhouse.
Complimentary refreshments and food will be available to competitors in the clubhouse post race.
Prize Giving
Each competitor will be issued a medal on completion of the race.
There will be a prize giving ceremony for the race winners at the GAA club on Saturday morning.
Spectators Note
Spectators are not permitted in transition areas at any time.
Spectators are asked not to go anywhere on the course where they may be a hindrance to competitors or a danger to other road users.
We recommend spectators go to Downings GAA club and cheer all competitors across the finish line.
Race support
To ensure your race experience is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, we will have the following in place.
Please remember the event is on open public roads. Rules of the road and common courtesy should apply at all times. Remember the presence of a marshall does not give you right of way, be prepared to stop.
